• 2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground thyme
  • 1 can chicken broth
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • Grated cheese
  • Cilantro


  1. Sauté the onion in a little bit of olive oil until translucent. Add in the cumin, chili powder, garlic powder and thyme and sauté again for 1 minute more. Add chopped tomato, black beans and chicken broth. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  2. Using an immersion blender, purée the soup in batched and once smooth, add in the diced ham.
  3. Serve in bowls and garnish with the diced avocado, cheese and cilantro.
