Kale is up near the top of the list of foods with many benefits you should be enjoying. Thought to be both a cancer fighting food and a contributor to reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, kale is important as a weapon and a shield in your health arsenal.

High in calcium, iron, vitamin A, manganese, and chlorophyll, it’s a potent green friend. Kale is also an extremely hearty crop that is even being grown throughout the winter on many local farms. Fresh, local superfood you can get all winter long? Can’t go wrong.Winter Vitamin Cocktail

Kale is a green machine

As you’ve probably already experienced, some kale varieties can be quite bitter when raw. When juiced, this flavor becomes accentuated by the unleashing of that photosynthetic health giant, chlorophyll, as it brings its verdant, nutritive power to your glass. In other words, it’s strong stuff.Juicing_2268_RT

Combining flavors

For the Winter Vitamin Cocktail, in order to temper the flavor of the kale, two apples are added to provide a sweet body to the juice. Also, lemon cuts through the bitterness and orients your taste buds, giving the drink both bite and balance.
